Latin America and Caribbean

HLSP has broad experience working for governments and for bilateral and multilateral development agencies throughout the Latin America and the Caribbean regions.

We have held or successfully concluded major health sector development and reform projects in Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Ceará (Brazil), mainly through funding provided by DFID. We have also delivered smaller scale interventions in Trinidad & Tobago, Anguilla, Jamaica, Belize, Guyana, Honduras and Guatemala. In Nicaragua we are currently providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Health to implement a SWAp.

Our main interventions in all these countries have related to:
  • health sector reform, policy and strategy implementation, and change management;
  • health services management, including primary health care development, hospital management, design and development of IT systems, contracting and performance management;
  • communicable disease control and country level responses to the HIV and AIDS epidemic;
  • health financing, introduction of health insurance and management of the Official Development Assistance through Sector-wide Approaches, budget support and other innovative mechanisms;
  • programme management and design of interventions aimed at poverty reduction including PRSPs;
  • monitoring and evaluation studies.
