Change Agents Programme, Nigeria
Professor Eyitayo Lambo, former director of
CAPSWorking on the basic tenet that
sustainable change
must come from within and be institutionalised and that this will
not happen without catalysis, the Change Agent Programme aimed
to identify and empower Nigerians who will provide this catalysis
for reform in the health sector.
The original DFID-funded programme envisaged two types of change
agent programme:
- Health sector reform
- Immunisation
For each type of change agent, the programme involved the group
splitting into two: one half undertaking a focussed study tour to
South Africa and the other half to Ghana. The whole group reviewed
their experiences in a facilitated workshop back in Nigeria where
the change agents identified change ‘projects’ which are funded and
supported by the programme. In addition to this, a third group of
change agents from HIV and AIDs has visited Uganda and followed up
with a Nigeria workshop.
