UNESCO's short guide to the essential characteristics of effective HIV prevention
Claudia Sambo and Clare Dickinson for UNESCO, 2010
This booklet identifies the key characteristics of effective HIV prevention in a user-friendly and accessible format. It explains how programme implementers and project managers can apply, integrate and institutionalize these characteristics during the project cycle. Effective HIV responses are:
- Rights-based
- Scientifically accurate and grounded in evidence
- Culturally appropriate
- Gender responsive
- Age-specific
- Participatory and inclusive
The Guide helps to identify entry points for involving different stakeholders; tailor communication efforts to different audiences; and consider key questions to ensure human rights principles and gender equality issues are addressed.
Available in: English, French, Spanish, and Chinese.
