HLSP was contracted to draft a Maternal, Reproductive and Neonatal Health Strategy for Somalia, which will inform the development of a full national roadmap for women's health supported by UNFPA.

As part of the strategy development process, HLSP undertook a range of activities including:

• assessing numbers of comprehensive emergency obstetric and neonatal care procedures, and estimating the unmet obstetric care needs for the whole of Somalia;
• assessing barriers to the access and utilization of maternal, reproductive and neonatal health services;
• reviewing current levels of service provision in private and public facilities.
